Sikorsky Runway Expansion In The Works

Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim recently spoke with federal officials about expansion of Sikorsky Memorial Airport.

STRATFORD, CT — Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim went to Washington D.C. recently to meet with federal agencies for discussions on runway improvements for the Sikorsky Memorial Airport. The improvements are supported by state officials and a federal delegation who have expressed that investment and commercial flights at Sikorsky would benefit Connecticut, according to a statement from Ganim.

The long-term goal is for Bridgeport to be a transportation hub for southwestern Connecticut, allowing residents easy access to air travel and relief of traffic congestion on highways into New York, while also providing an economic and job boost. The airport is located in Stratford, but owned by the City of Bridgeport.

"The FAA's approval for these safety zones will allow us to seek and retain private investment that will make Sikorsky, and Bridgeport a transportation center for southwestern Connecticut. That's why we are working so hard, that's why we were in Washington — to make it happen here — in Bridgeport," Mayor Ganim said in a statement.
