'Silent Night' Lyrics Switch Causes Stir in Stratford

Parents are expressing their outrage after an elementary school music teacher changed the lyrics of "Silent Night."

A change in the lyrics of “Silent Night” is causing a stir in Stratford.

Fox 61 reports a music teacher at Chapel Street Elementary School changed the lyrics from “holy night” to “solstice night” and parents are expressing their outrage to school officials.

One parent was on the air Friday morning with WPLR’s “Chaz and AJ in the Morning” and they have in turn launched a movement on their website called Abolish Super Sensitivity.

Stratford Superintendent of Schools Dr. Janet Robinson told Fox 61 that changing lyrics is “not our policy” and it was a single music teacher “exercising creativity.”

She also said that if teachers want to change the lyrics, they need to go through their department heads, which was not done in this case.
