Solar Panel Catches Fire At Home In Stratford: Officials

STRATFORD, CT — Crews extinguished a roof fire that involved a solar panel at a home in Stratford on Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.

The Stratford Fire Department responded around 3 p.m. to multiple 911 calls reporting a house fire on Clover Street, according to a news release from Stratford Fire Chief Jermaine B. Atkinson.

“Upon arrival of the first due apparatus, crews found a solar panel on fire on the roof with extension to the roof material,” according to the news release. “Fire crews rapidly extinguished the fire and disconnected the solar power to the home. The Rescue company performed a rapid search of the home which confirmed the report of the occupants self-evacuating prior to the fire department’s arrival.”

No injuries were reported, according to officials.

Officials said the fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Stratford Fire Marshal's office. Stratford EMS and Stratford police were also called to the scene for incident support.

“The Stratford Fire Department would like to remind our residents to have working smoke detectors, regularly practice an escape plan for residential homes and call 911 immediately upon observation of smoke or fire,” officials wrote.
