The Senate seat was most recently held by Andres Ayala, and the House seats were most recently held by Auden Grogins and David Scribner. While all three legislators won their most recent elections to serve during the 2015 legislative session, they chose not to be sworn into office this week and vacancies were declared.

Under state law, the Governor is required to issue a Writ of Special Election within 10 days of a vacancy in the General Assembly, and a special election must be held 46 days after it is issued. Governor Malloy is filing the writs today (Jan. 9).
