Stratford Baseball Edges Weston In Extra Innings
Junior Ben Petrie lifted the Stratford baseball team to an extra-inning victory with a big day on the mound and at the plate.
STRATFORD, CT — Junior Ben Petrie lifted the Stratford baseball team to a 5-4 victory over Weston in eight innings in a South-West Conference contest last Friday at Penders Field in Stratford.
Petrie had a big day on the mound and at the plate for the Red Devils. He started and pitching seven full innings, spacing out four Weston runs and eight hits.
Petrie’s two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the first, followed by sophomore Ty Owen’s single up the middle, got Stratford out to an early 3-0 lead.

Weston responded with three in the second and one more in the top of the seventh. Stratford tied things back up in the bottom of the seventh when junior Jake Kszywanos scored on a bases-loaded walk by senior Aidan Ormsbee.
Junior Joe Booska relieved Petrie in the eighth inning and held Weston scoreless. Then in the bottom of the eighth, junior Conor Lesczczynski drew a big walk, re-entered runner Brady Knorr stole second, Kszywanos also walked, and both runners were then were balked over second and third.

Petrie then delivered a sacrifice fly to right field to score Knorr from third.
Booska picked up the win, while Petrie finished the day going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Senior J.J. Romatzick added two hits of his own and played great defense at shortstop.
