Stratford Basketball Splits Games With Bethel, Barlow

The Red Devils will take a 6-3 record into Friday night's game with Pomperaug after splitting recent games with Bethel and Joel Barlow.

STRATFORD, CT — The Stratford High School boys’ basketball team defeated Bethel 50-44 last Thursday night to improve to 6-2.

The Red Devils struggled in the first half and scored only two points in the second quarter. Ben Petrie came off the bench in the third quarter and drained two 3-pointers to spark the offense.

Mike Olivencia led Stratford with 14 points, while Jayquan Kirkland added 13 points and Petrie finished with nine.

Lorenzo Almonte was outstanding for Bethel scoring 34 of the team’s 44 total points.

Joel Barlow 67, Stratford 38: Stratford fell to 6-3 with a 67-38 loss to Joel Barlow on Tuesday night in Redding.

The Red Devils trailed from the tip and could never get things going on either side of the ball.

Jayquan Kirkland led Stratford with 19 points.

Jeb Hurlbut scored a game-high 23 points for the Falcons, while Claron Casey finished with 12 points.

The Red Devils look to bounce back against Pomperaug at home at 7 p.m. on Friday.
