Stratford Beats Brien McMahon In Season Opener

The Stratford boys' basketball team opened the season with a thrilling 57-56 victory over Brien McMahon.

STRATFORD, CT — The Stratford High School boys’ basketball team opened the season with a thrilling 57-56 win over Brien McMahon in Norwalk on Friday night.

Jayquan Kirkland led the Red Devils with 21 points, while Jzhaun Davis had 14 points and Brady Knorr added 13.

Stratford stormed back in the third quarter after trailing 33-24 at halftime. Kirkland and Davis scored nine points apiece in the quarter to tie the game at 45 heading into the fourth quarter.

Kirkland hit two free throws with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game to put Stratford up 57-56 and seal the victory.

The Senators were led by Grant Matkins with 16 points.

Stratford’s first home game is against North Haven at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22.
