Stratford Brakettes Win Sixth Straight National Championship

Denise Denis leads Stratford's offensive explosion in Women's Major Softball National Championship game.

The Stratford Brakettes slugged their way to a 19-2 victory over the New York City Havoc to claim their sixth straight Women’s Major Softball National Championship Sunday at DeLuca Hall of Fame Field.

The Brakettes exploded for 18 hits, including eight extra-base hits, in the win.

The Brakettes finished the 2015 campaign with a 44-6 record, including a 30-game winning streak to end the season. Their last loss was on June 27 to Team Canada, which recently won the Pan-Am Games with a victory over Team USA.

Denise Denis led the Brakettes in the title game, finishing 5-for-5 with two home runs and nine RBIs. Only former Brakette outfielder Donna McLean (10) had more RBIs in a single game.

Denis finished with 10 home runs this season, the seventh straight season she reached double-digit home runs. She now has a franchise-record 103 career homers with the Stratford Brakettes, 12 ahead of ASA National Hall of Famer Pat Dufficy, who sits in second place.

Elena Bowman also hit a home run in the game, also her 10th of the season, as she finished tied with Denis for the team lead in 2015.
