Both the Stratford and Bunnell boys basketball teams advanced to CIAC championship games with thrilling semifinal victories on Tuesday.

STRATFORD, CT — Both the Stratford and Bunnell boys basketball teams advanced to CIAC championship games with semifinal victories on Tuesday night.

Fourth-seeded Stratford toppled top-seeded Ellington 43-40 in the Division III semifinal at Plainville High School.

With the win, the Red Devils will face third-seeded SMSA in the title game this weekend at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

It will be Stratford’s first appearance in a state final since 2008, when it beat Hartford Public for the Class M championship, according to GameTimeCT.

Jaiden Herring scored seven points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead 3-pointer, to help lift Stratford to the victory, according to GameTimeCT. He finished with 10 points, while Reese Nicol scored a game-high 16 points and Myles Betrand had 13.

Seventh-seeded Bunnell advanced to the Division II title game with a 58-55 victory over No. 3 East Hartford in the semifinals at Wilby High School.

The Bulldogs will take on top-seeded Windsor in the championship game this weekend at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Rody Ricketts Jr. led Bunnell with 14 points and had a key steal in the final seconds to go along with two free throws to seal the victory for the Bulldogs, according to GameTimeCT. Brandon Acosta added 13 points for Bunnell.
