Stratford Couple Celebrates 60th Wedding Anniversary

Austin and Marie Sasso were married in Bridgeport on May 4, 1957.

Stratford, CT - Austin and Marie Sasso celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday with a Mass celebrated in their honor at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church. The 4:00 pm Mass was celebrated by the pastor Monsignor Martin P. Ryan, D.Min. Father Kumar, the church's parochial vicar offered his congratulations to the couple before the Mass began. After Communion was distributed, the monsignor called the couple up to the altar for a special blessing.

The couple was married at Sacred Heart Church in Bridgeport CT, which was razed in December 1965 to make room for the newly designed Rt. 25. Mrs. Sasso is the former Marie Norkawich. She retired after many years in the men's department at Caldor department store in Trumbull. Mr. Sasso, a Navy veteran, was a draftsman at Avco Lycoming before his retirement. He has been a longtime volunteer with the Boy Scouts and also volunteers his time with maintenance projects at Our Lady of Grace.

The couple have five adult children: Nancy Sasso Janis, a contributor to Patch.com, David A. Sasso, Jeffrey J. Sasso, Mark E. Sasso and Christine Reuther. They are the proud grandparents of ten grandchildren.
