Alec Voccola shares with Patch why he should be elected to the Stratford Board of Education.

STRATFORD, CT — The 2023 municipal election is heating up in Stratford with plenty of races on the ballot.
Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 7 and cast their ballots for seats on the Town Council, Board of Education, Planning and Zoning and more.

I AM MARRIED TO THE FORMER LAURIEANNE GALATIE. WE HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR 38YRS. We have 3 married children. Alec and Alyssa Voccola, Brett and Mary Voccola and Chelsea and Frank Salvio. We have 4 grandchildren, AJ, Aubrey,Charlotte and Lily and 1 on the way.

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?
Yes. Past appointee to the Stratford Parks and Recreation Committee. Past appointee to Stratford Public Safety Committee. Past elected official to the Stratford Zoning Commission. Current elected Stratford Planning Commissioner.
Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?
To help facilitate a safe and secure learning environment for students and staff. Address chronic absenteeism and find solutions to this issue. Review all curriculum and create the best academic model for all students to help improve the test scores in the district. Ensure our tax dollars are being spent efficiently. I would like to bridge the gap between students, staff and parents by improving communication.

Accountability. I plan to have an open door policy to improve communication about issues concerning students, staff, and parents.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I have experience working in the school environment as a Stratford Police School Resource Officer.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
Created and implemented various in school and out of school programs and workshops. Examples; Internet Safety for students and parents, "Stranger Danger" Program, Dare Instruction, Real Deal Program Building Safety Plans, and Mentoring various students.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
It's all about the kids.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
My children all attended Stratford Schools and now my grandchildren are beginning their journey.
