Family:Keith Fabian (45) husband, Paige Fabian (14), daughter 9th grader at Bunnell High School, Taylor Fabian (12), daughter, 7th grader at Flood Middle School.
Experience: First time running for office
Family in government: No one currently works in politics or government in my family.
The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:
Invest in teachers and classrooms: I will ensure classrooms are getting the resources they need for all students to succeed, such as materials, training, support staff, and & smaller class sizes.
Critical differences between me and my opponents:
One difference between myself and the other candidates is that I am the only candidate that knows the Stratford Public Schools as a student, parent, and educator. I graduated from Bunnell High School in 1995. I hold a bachelor's degree in English Literature from SCSU and a Master's of Education from Sacred Heart University. I continued with my education and earned my 6th-year degree in Remedial Reading K-12. I am certified as a K-6 teacher as well as a K-12 Reading teacher. I have taught 1st and 2nd grade at what was Stratford Academy/ Honeyspot House and served as a reading specialist and 6th-grade teacher at Chapel Street school. I am currently a reading specialist at Fairfield Warde High School.
Accomplishments:
I have over 20 years of experience as an educator in two school systems and multiple grade levels. I have been a part of the Stratford schools in various roles throughout my life and know the challenges that have been overcome and that lay ahead of us. I know firsthand as an educator that the funds do not always make it to where they need to go. As a former Stratford teacher and parent of current students and I also know how dedicated our staff is to its students and this community. I feel indebted and committed to Stratford for the rich and diverse education and well-rounded development that it has given me and is now providing for my daughters.
Other issues:
Advocate for Special Education: Students should receive the proper services they need, and we will ensure money is invested appropriately in training staff to serve all our students better.
Ensure equity across the district: We must guarantee that all students are treated equitably, and that, no matter the population of a school, every family has access to the same opportunity.
Revamp current meeting protocols: Parents and members of the public need to be heard and be able to address members of the BOE. Therefore, and we will increase transparency and communication.
What else would you like voters to know about you?
I am committed to every student in our school system and their needs and best interests. I believe that as parents, we need to come together because when we are united, and we can make great things happen.
