Stratford Firefighter Dies Suddenly at Home

The fire department is mourning the loss of one of its own following a medical emergency on Monday.

STRATFORD, CT — The Stratford Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own following the sudden and tragic death of firefighter Jason “Jay’’ Carrafiello, 38, who died at home on Monday, according to the Connecticut Post.

The Post reports Stratford firefighters responded to the home on a call of “respiratory distress” on Monday afternoon and Carrafiello, who was also a state-licensed EMT, passed away as emergency crews worked to save him.

Carrafiello was also the freshman boys’ basketball coach at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull.

“It is with heavy hearts we share to our SJ community the sudden passing of Jason Carrafiello, Freshman Boys Basketball Coach,” the school posted on its website on Monday. “Jason passed away suddenly this morning. Our hearts go out to the Carrafiello Family and prayers are offered especially for his wife Jessica, son Brian and daughter Kaitlyn.”
