Stratford Health Dept. Shares Annual Report
The report showcases the work that Health and Community Services have accomplished during the 2017 fiscal year.

From the Stratford Health Department: The Stratford Health Department is pleased to share its recent Annual Report, Strategies for Health. The report showcases the work that Health and Community Services have accomplished during the 2017 fiscal year, and highlights important activities that the department does each day - ranging from restaurant inspections, emergency preparedness, and food access programs, to substance abuse prevention, school health, and vaccine clinics.
The Annual report captures how data is collected and used to drive decisions and create programs that address Stratford-specific health issues. “What gets measured, gets done,” says Andrea Boissevain, Stratford’s Health Director. “Data and trend analysis are at the core of assessing whether we are achieving improved health through our programs and policies.” She noted that data helped inform which quality improvement projects were focused on this year such as improving collecting data on Hepatitis C, decreasing childhood lead poisoning and educating the public and employees on safe nail salon practices. The full Annual report is available on the Health Department’s website or you can pick up copies at the Stratford Library, Town Hall, Baldwin Center or at Health Department’s offices at 468 Birdseye Street.
Even though this is the fifth year the Health Department has published an annual report, it is not clear that the community knows all about the wide variety of Health Department activities and services. This is partially based on a preliminary survey conducted during this year’s Main Street Festival in June. For instance, not many participants knew that the Stratford Health Department was accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board in 2016, becoming one of only three local health departments in Connecticut to receive this recognition. Therefore, as part of their ongoing, continuous effort to improve services for residents, they are launching a brief anonymous survey to help guide how to improve getting the message out about the good work that gets done as well as soliciting input for future programming.
