Stratford Library Sets 2014 Book & Play Discussion Series
Sue Monk Kidd, Thornton Wilder, and other bestsellers and classic drama comprise selections for monthly discussion programs

The Stratford Library has announced its selections for the Fall 2014 series of “Books Over Coffee” and “Script Talk!”, the monthly book and play discussion programs that have been a popular staple at the library for over 28 years. As part of its long-range plan, the library continues to offer the latest in current titles and topics for its patrons. “Script Talk!” is led by theatre director and library public relations/programming coordinator Tom Holehan and “Books Over Coffee” is hosted by Stratford educator and author Kathleen Faggella.
After a six-month hiatus, Script Talk!” returns for its regular fall slot on Tuesday, October 14 with a look at Thornton Wilder’s seminal classic, “Our Town”. Wilder’s deceptively simple look at life and death within the confines of a typical small American town still speaks to generations with its profound insights about human nature. The most recent Broadway revival of the play starred the late Paul Newman and the film version of that production will be shown following the Library’s play discussion. The drama will also be in revival in a major new production at New Haven’s Long Wharf Theatre in October.
The remainder of the “Script Talk! 2014” schedule includes the Tony Award-winning play, “August: Osage County” on November 18 and Terence Rattigan’s classic British drama “The Winslow Boy” (December 9). “The Winslow Boy” will also be performed at Stratford’s Square One Theatre Company next spring.

Current bestsellers and notable authors mark the selections chosen for “Books Over Coffee”. The Invention of Wings, Sue Monk Kidd’s critically acclaimed follow-up to her bestseller, The Secret Life of Bees, will kick-off the fall season on Wednesday, September 24. Other book titles for the season will be The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman on October 29, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (November 19) and Fannie Flagg’s latest bestseller, The All-Girl Filling Station’s Last Reunion (December 17).
Both “Books Over Coffee” and “Script Talk!” are held in the Stratford Library’s Lovell Room beginning at noon each month. Participants are invited to bring a bag lunch; coffee and tea are also served. Copies of all books and plays are currently available for loan at the library’s Circulation Desk. All “Books Over Coffee” and “Script Talk!” titles are also available on pre-loaded Kindle eReaders and as downloadable eBooks through the OverDrive app for iOS and Android.
