Stratford Lighthouse Property To Open For Tour

Stratford Point has a history dating back to 1781, but has been inaccessible to the public until recently.

STRATFORD, CT — The town of Stratford is offering an open house for the Stratford Point property and its lighthouse.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to invite the public in to see what we are up to at the site,” Mayor Laura Hoydick said in a town news release.

Hoydick made a deal with the U.S. Coast Guard in 2019, giving the town access to the lighthouse and its surrounding buildings and property. The open house is set for Oct. 17, and will include a slideshow presentation followed by a guided walking tour of the grounds.

“Our Public Works Department has been very busy on these grounds making improvements and renovations to the grounds and the keeper’s cottage," she said. "We are proud to showcase the work that has gone into this effort so far as we get closer to the ultimate goal of opening this historic location that is unique to Stratford for special events and functions.”

Stratford Point has a history dating back to 1781, but has been inaccessible to the public until recently. The lighthouse itself cannot be entered due to lead contamination, but the keeper’s cottage, former gun club and adjacent Audubon Connecticut property will be included in the tour.
