Stratford Man Charged With Murder In Fatal Shooting: Bridgeport Police

The suspect is accused of killing Dominique Jones, 29, and injuring two others in a shooting in Bridgeport on Oct. 8.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 38-year-old Stratford man was arrested by local and federal authorities Tuesday in connection with the Oct. 8 murder of 29-year-old Bridgeport resident Dominique Jones, according to Bridgeport police.

Joseph Omar Dejesus, formerly known as Joseph Reyes, was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force, and members of the Bridgeport and Stratford police departments. He was charged with the following:

  • Murder
  • Assault in the 1st Degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm
  • Carrying a Pistol without a Permit
  • Illegal Discharge of a Firearm
  • Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree

Dejesus is accused of shooting Jones and two others near the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Broad Street; the two other victims, a 27-year-old Bridgeport man and a 24-year-old Derby man, suffered injuries but have been released from area hospitals.

According to police, Dejesus is being held in lieu of a $2 million bond, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

"This arrest is the result of a combined investigative effort by members of the Bridgeport Police Department’s Homicide Squad, Connecticut State Police Gang Unit, BPD Fusion Center, BPD Identification Unit, and the States Attorney’s Office," said Bridgeport Police Capt. Kevin Gilleran in a statement. "Homicide Detective Tom Harper is the lead investigator. Thank you for all your hard work."
