Stratford Man Pleads Guilty In Niece's Shooting Death
A witness told police that Michael Catchings intervened in a fight to protect Raenetta Catchings but shot her by accident.

STRATFORD, CT — A Stratford man admitted Monday to fatally shooting his niece, according to the Connecticut Post. Michael Catchings, 23, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault charges, reduced from murder and attempted murder, according to the Post, which noted the deal was made in accordance with the wishes of the victim's family.
Catchings killed Raenetta Catchings, 27, and injured her boyfriend, on Aug. 13, 2017, outside her Stratford home, the Post reported. A witness told police Michael Catchings intervened in a fight to protect Raenetta Catchings but shot her accidentally, according to the Post. He will be sentenced March 13 and faces 25 years in prison, the Post reported.
