Stratford Mayor Reacts To Statewide 911 Outage

The 911 outage impacted every community in Connecticut early Tuesday morning.

STRATFORD, CT — A statewide outage of the 9-1-1 emergency system early Tuesday morning interfered with at least one known attempt to reach first responders in Stratford, according to officials. The town 9-1-1- center was notified of the outage, which impacted every community in Connecticut, by the state’s 9-1-1 vendor, officials said.

“We make a great effort to have our residents rely on 9-1-1 for emergency calls, and the outage early this morning could understandably shake the confidence the public has in this system,” Stratford Mayor Laura Hoydick said. “As of this time, we have still not been advised by state officials what caused this massive outage of the 911 system across the state. We will certainly be pursuing those answers, as well as potential solutions to prevent this from ever happening again. Our residents need to know that when lives are on the line, the 9-1-1 system will work.”

Hoydick noted that in consideration of this incident, it is a good idea for residents to program the local police number into their phones and post next to their landlines as an added security. That number is 203-385-4100, and it can also be used to reach Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
