The new chief's background includes a prior stint as an acting chief in New Haven, officials said.

STRATFORD, CT — The new police chief has a lengthy background in law enforcement and will be the first woman to serve in the role in the town’s history.
On Wednesday, Mayor David Chess announced the selection of Renee Dominguez following a national search.

Dominguez has worked for three police departments across Connecticut.
Since 2022, Dominguez has been the deputy chief of police for the Watertown Police Department. She previously served as the interim chief of police for the New Haven Police Department. She began her service as a Newtown police officer in 2000.
Dominguez has over 13 years of supervisory experience in police departments, with 12 years at the executive and command level. During her career, she has risen through the ranks, holding the titles of sergeant, lieutenant, assistant chief/deputy chief, and interim chief of police.
"It is a true honor to be named chief of the Stratford Police Department,” Dominguez said. “I look forward to working alongside our dedicated officers and partnering with the community to foster a culture grounded in trust, integrity, and collaboration."
The town had to fill the position following the departure of former Chief Joseph McNeil. The mayor thanked interim chief Paul DosSantos for his “steady command during this crucial transition period.”
A swearing-in ceremony date for Dominguez will be announced within a week, officials said.
