Stratford Students Create Portraits For Children In Need

STRATFORD, CT — (From Wooster Middle School): A small group of students and teachers at Wooster Middle School have been diligently working on portraits for the Memory Project organization. This organization travels around the world to areas where children face an unfortunate or challenging childhood such as war, violence, or extreme poverty.

The assignment invites artists to create portraits of these children based on photographs taken by this organization. Once complete, the portraits are mailed across the globe to the children in need. The Memory Project organization, and artists involved, hope the receiving children feel valued and appreciated knowing others care about their well-being and childhood memories.

This opportunity was offered as an additional art project to eighth grade students by their art teacher, Ms. Williams. “Our students worked incredibly hard, both in and outside of the classroom,” she said. “They wanted more than to create accurate portraits. They wanted to pour their hearts into their pieces to make sure the receiving children could feel their love.”
