Edgewood Street resident also receives five years probation for one of the largest watch thefts in U.S. history.

Stratford’s Gilberto Nieves, 38, was sentenced on Friday to six years in prison, followed by five years of probation, for stealing more than $1 million in watches from Victorinox Swiss Army headquarters in Monroe, according to the Connecticut Post.

Nieves, of Edgewood Street, pleaded guilty under the Alford Doctrine in July to first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny.

The Post reports that Nieves, who managed the watch repair department, smuggled 644 high-end watches out through the mail room over the course of more than a year.
