Stratford's Sterling House to Hold 'Women Who Inspire' Luncheon

Breast cancer survivor, author and health activist Mary Ann Wasil will be the keynote speaker at the event.

Former Connecticut police officer and actress Mary Ann Wasil will be the keynote speaker of the Stratford Sterling House’s “Women Who Inspire” luncheon on April 9 at the Mill River Country Club.

Wasil, author of “A Diary of Healing,” is the Founder, President and CEO of the non-profit Get in Touch Foundation, and has been a breast cancer survivor and health activist since 2004. She spent nearly 10 years on the soap opera “All My Children” during her acting days.

The mission of the event is to bring together women of the community to “get in touch with women to inspire.”

Sterling House will honor four inspiring local women: State Representative Laura Hoydick, Mary Dean, Executive Director of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce, Tamara Trojanowski of Stratford Community Services and Ty Sims from the South End Community Center.

The “Women Who Inspire” luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Mill River Country Club. For tickets, or to volunteer to host a table, please contact Diane Sheridan at 203-378-2606 x105 or e-mail dsheridan@sterlinghousecc.org.

The luncheon will benefit the Resource Connection Program and Food Pantry.

Wasil is the Founder, President and CEO of the non-profit Get in Touch Foundation, and has been a breast cancer survivor and health activist since 2004. Humor in the face of challenge makes her a sought after speaker worldwide, as does her passionate commitment to free global breast health education for girls.

Wasil resides in Milford with her three children. She is a former Connecticut police officer and actress, having spent nearly 10 years on the soap opera “All My Children.” Sterling House will honor four inspiring local women: CT State Representative Laura Hoydick, Mary Dean, Executive Director of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce, Tamara Trojanowski of Stratford Community Services and Ty Sims from the South End Community Center.

In addition to a healthy lunch, attendees will enjoy the “Wellness Boutique,” an experiential presentation of wellness-focused services and products, including acupuncture, massage, reiki, herbs, and essential oils

“This is a very focused fundraiser for Sterling House,” says Diane Sheridan, Development Director for Sterling House. “Our goal is to bring together 100 women to raise $10,000 for the Resource Connection program for Sterling House. It promises to be a wonderful event and something to look forward to this spring.”

The Sterling House Resource Connection Program is a comprehensive, basic needs assistance program providing food, diapers, pet food, school supplies, Thanksgiving food baskets, holiday gifts, personal care items, and information and referral to families in Stratford and the Greater Bridgeport area. In 2014 the Resource Connection Program provided enough food for over 51,406 meals and serviced 8,130 children, teenagers, and adults. The Resource Connection Program started in 1992 as a small food pantry with a single cabinet and refrigerator. The program is now the largest of its kind in Stratford.

Sterling House is a multi-service community center located in the heart of Stratford, CT. Sterling House services more than 13,000 children, teenagers and adults per year by providing child development services, community services, positive youth development services and adult programs to the residents of Stratford and the Greater Bridgeport area. The mission of Sterling House is to foster the physical, social, emotional, artistic and intellectual growth of the communities we serve.
