Teen, 17, Charged In Killing Of Stratford Man: Police

The suspect was taken into custody in North Carolina in connection with the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old Stratford man in Ansonia: Police

STRATFORD, CT — A 17-year-old Ansonia resident has been charged in connection with the killing of a Stratford man in April, according to police.

Johnny Class, 20, of Stratford, was identified as the victim of a fatal shooting in April in Ansonia, the Connecticut Post previously reported. Officers responded to Main Street near Kingston Drive shortly before 1 p.m. April 5, where they found a man — later identified as Class — with a gunshot wound in the passenger seat of a silver Honda, police said.

The officers provided first aid until an ambulance arrived and took Class to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.

Monteral Crews, 17, of Ansonia, was arraigned at Derby Superior Court on Wednesday in connection with the homicide, Ansonia police said in an update on Thursday.

Crews was taken into custody in North Carolina by the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force on May 13 and brought back to Connecticut on May 27, according to police. Crews was arraigned in Juvenile Court on May 31 where the case was transferred to adult court, police said.

Crews was charged with felony murder, murder, criminal attempt at first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, and carrying a pistol without a permit. Crews is being held in lieu of a $1.5 million bond with a court date of June 23.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
