Victim Identified In Fatal Shooting In Stratford

A woman was killed in the shooting early Sunday morning and a 24-year-old man was also shot and listed in critical condition.

STRATFORD, CT — Stratford Police have identified the female victim in Sunday morning’s fatal shooting as Raenetta Catchings, 27, of Stratford. Catchings died as a result of injuries sustained in an early morning shooting Sunday in Stratford, police said. A 24-year-old man was also shot in the incident and was listed in critical condition as of Sunday.

Stratford Police said on Sunday afternoon that they are searching for the person(s) responsible for the shooting. Police did not release any further information on the status of the investigation in Monday afternoon’s update.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly after midnight Sunday on the street in front of 1854 North Avenue. The shooting followed what appeared to be a verbal argument, police said. Catchings was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital.

"The shooting is an isolated incident and there is no further danger at the scene,” police said in Sunday’s news release. “North Avenue was closed for several hours as a result of the shooting and subsequent investigation.”
