Woman Charged With Stealing $4.8K in Electricity: Stratford Police

The woman is accused of defrauding the United Illuminating Company out of more than $4,800 worth of electricity, according to police.

STRATFORD, CT — A Stratford woman is accused of stealing more than $4,800 worth of electricity from United Illuminating Company by using fake identities and social security numbers, according to police.

Kimberly Lawton, 43, was arrested Feb. 27 on a warrant for “defrauding the United Illuminating Company of $4,823,” according to Capt. Frank Eannotti.

Eannotti said the arrest is the result of an investigation that started in October 2016.

“Lawton allegedly used fake identities and social security numbers to obtain services from the UI and then did not pay the fees for the service,” Eannotti said in a press release.

She was arrested on charges of third-degree larceny, criminal impersonation and third-degree identity theft.

Lawton was scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on March 8.
