SUFFIELD, CT — A longtime Suffield firefighter has retired after more than four decades of service to the town.

Kevin Seger, who served as both a volunteer and career firefighter in Suffield, was recently celebrated by firefighters past and present, future firefighters and firefighters from out of town, according to a post shared Saturday by Kathy Dunai and the Suffield Board of Selectmen.

Seger served the town for 41 years.

The Suffield Fire Department said in an April 5 post that Seger started as a volunteer firefighter in January 1985. He was later hired as a full-time career firefighter in December 1997.

“Over the many years Kevin has been a leader and asset to the department,” the department wrote. “His experience and commitment was second to none and he will be missed.”

The department congratulated Seger on his final day as a career Suffield firefighter and wished him luck in his next chapter.

Town officials also offered best wishes, saying firefighters came together to celebrate his retirement and decades of service.
