Suffield High Roof, Solar Project Gets $1.19M Boost

State funding will help cover school infrastructure and renewable energy work at Suffield High School.

SUFFIELD, CT — Suffield has been awarded more than $1.18 million in state grant funding for roof replacement work and a solar energy project at Suffield High School, town officials announced.

The town received $1,189,109 in State of Connecticut school construction grant funding through the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services, according to a release from First Selectman Colin Moll’s office.

The funding includes two separate grants: one for roof replacement work on designated sections of Suffield High School and another for a photovoltaic solar system to be installed on the newly replaced roof sections, officials said.

Town officials said the projects are expected to preserve school infrastructure, improve energy efficiency and help control future operating costs.

“This is tremendous news for the Town of Suffield and our residents,” Moll said in the release. “These grants will help us address critical facility needs at Suffield High School while also advancing energy efficiency and sustainability.”

Moll also credited state Rep. Tami Zawistowski for helping secure the funding. In the release, Moll said targeted school construction legislation helped Suffield qualify for a higher grant reimbursement level than it would have received under existing state rules.

Zawistowski also announced the funding publicly, saying she was happy to initiate and advance the targeted legislation for the roof and solar work.

Town officials said they will continue working with state agencies, school administrators and project consultants as the work moves through design and construction.
