SUFFIELD, CT — A new July event is encouraging residents to shop local while exploring Suffield’s farm stands, cottage bakers, flower growers, artisans and makers.
“Suffield Shops the Stands” began July 1 and is scheduled to run throughout the month, according to organizers. The event invites shoppers to visit participating vendors, make purchases and collect stamps on event cards.
Participants who collect five different stamps can turn in a completed card at their favorite participating vendor to be entered into a prize drawing from that vendor. Shoppers may complete more than one card for additional chances to win.
Organizers said the effort is meant to highlight the people behind Suffield’s agriculture-based local economy and encourage residents to support small businesses throughout town.
“This event is all about discovering the people behind our amazing agriculture based town, and celebrating everything that makes shopping local so much fun,” organizers wrote in the announcement.
The event features local growers, bakers and makers, with participating vendors being introduced through the Suffield Shops the Stands page during the month.
Organizers said they hope the project becomes an annual tradition and said additional growers, bakers and makers interested in being included in August may reach out to the event page.
