SUFFIELD, CT — The Route 159 railroad crossing in Suffield will close for about 48 hours next week while crews replace it, sending drivers onto a detour.
The closure is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 21–22, according to an Oct. 13 announcement from the Connecticut Department of Transportation. Vehicles and pedestrians will be barred from the crossing during construction.
The posted detour will use Route 190, Interstate 91 and Route 140. Homes and businesses along Route 159 will remain accessible, CTDOT said.

"The work being done will restore the railroad crossing on Route 159 and address roadway surface issues near the tracks," said Jeffrey Gonneville, CTDOT's bureau chief of public transportation.
Connecticut Southern Railroad, which owns and operates the line, is funding the replacement and handling the work with its contractor.
Drivers should allow extra travel time. Severe weather could change the schedule, CTDOT said.
