SUFFIELD, CT — Two students have returned to Suffield Public Schools from outside placements through a program that provides more intensive support in their home district, school officials reported.
The Effective School Solutions program produced approximately $300,000 in gross savings, Director of Special Services Diana Kelley told the school board Oct. 5, according to meeting minutes.
Business Manager Eric Remington cautioned that the state reimburses some outside-placement costs and that anticipated savings were already included in the district budget.

The program pairs clinicians with district staff to support students with significant emotional and behavioral needs. Services include student support, family therapy and caregiver groups.
Board members supported the program for its financial benefits and its ability to serve students locally, the minutes state.
Officials are considering serving more students and accepting tuition-paying students from other districts. Kelley urged evaluating a full year of results before significant expansion. A fuller report is expected in the spring.
