Anita J. Coleman, 80; Retired Suffield Lawyer, Sacred Heart Church Parishioner

Anita J. Coleman, 80, of Suffield, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015.

Born June 13, 1934, daughter of the late Carl and Leonie (Beauregard) Johnson, she lived in Wilbraham, MA before moving to Suffield in 1978.

Anita graduated from Braintree High School, received her Bachelor Degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and received her Law Degree from Western New England School of Law. She served as the State of Connecticut’s Attorney for the Department of Transportation for 25 years before retiring. After retiring Anita continued practicing law with the Law Firm of Victoria Spellman, Suffield, for 10 years before her final retirement. Anita was an expert with Title Searches and Railroad and Canal Law and was instrumental in the creation of Rails-To-Trails.

She was a member of the Brandywine Village Board of Directors and served as their attorney as well. Anita was a life time member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, a long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Church where she was part of the Ladies Guild and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the Suffield Garden Club. During her free time she enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Coleman of Southport, NC; two grandchildren, Max Kibbe and Carleen Kibbe both of Southport, NC.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Ann Coleman-Kibbe; two brothers, Carl R. Johnson, Jr. and Raymond A. Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 30 at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, 446 Mountain Rd., Suffield. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Suffield. There will be no calling hours.
