Big Adventures Helping Keep Your Kids Cool This Summer

Summer has officially arrived!

By Big Adventures in Westfield

The hot summer days are here, so it’s time to think about keeping the kids cool and comfortable.

One thing you can do is to keep the house closed up as much as possible to keep the cold night air in and the hot day time air out. Keeping the blinds closed can also help. Once it starts to cool down at night, open up the windows – making sure that there is a nice cross-breeze.

A fan is also a good way to break up the warm air, and stop everything from being so stifling. One way to get more from the fan is to wet a sheet in cold water and wring it out. Then place it so that the fan blows directly through it. This is especially great for naptimes!

Another thing you’ll want to remember is to dress for the weather. The less you can wear, the better. Loose-fitting, breathable fabric is also good.

You could also get a large, long strip of fabric, wet it, and tie it loosely around your child's neck. Keep a spray bottle filled with water in the fridge for quick face spritzes. You can also switch to cool or tepid showers, or go for an early morning or late afternoon swim. Another trick is to dip your feet into a cool bath for a few minutes. Cooling your feet lowers the overall temperature of your skin and body.

Keep up the cold water and freeze a mix of water and juice into popsicle molds and let the kids sip on these. You could also freeze grapes or chunks of fruit. These are an awesome summer snack no matter what the weather is doing.

Playing with water is also a great way to keep cool. Have a water fight, play in the sprinkler, or play limbo with the hose.

Hot days are also a great time to rest. Do at home craft or coloring activities – rather than something that involves running around. You could also go to somewhere where there is air conditioning – like Big Adventures! We can provide hours of entertainment for your little ones – in a cool, comfortable, and fun environment.
