SUFFIELD, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy NY

  • Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Austin Rupp of Suffield has been named a captain of the men's golf team, and was chosen as the Men's Golf Performer of the Week by the Liberty League. At the 17-team Transylvania Fall Invitational in Kentucky, Rupp, a sophomore, led the Engineers with an eighth-place finish (tied), shooting rounds of 71-77-68, including a hole-in-one on the eighth hole in the final round. He moved up 22 spots with his 68 to earn top 10 honors in the field of 88 golfers. He was one stroke from fifth place and only two from fourth. As a team, RPI finished seventh (286-300-300), three shots from fifth place. Rupp was the Liberty League Rookie of the Year and an All-League First Team choice after averaging 75 shots over 21 rounds in 2017-18. A three-time Liberty League Performer of the Week, he finished first on the team in four events, including two overall victories.
