College Achievements By Suffield Students

SUFFIELD, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Delaware Valley University, Doylestown PA

• Sarah Bond, of Suffield, has been accepted for admission at Delaware Valley University.

Endicott College, Beverly MA

• Three Endicott softball student-athletes swept the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly awards, as announced by the league office on March 25. Laura Somerville of Suffield earned Pitcher of the Week honors, posting a 2-0 weekly record with a 1.69 ERA over three starts. In 20-2/3 innings of work, Somerville posted wins over Framingham State and Rutgers-Newark and struck out 15 batters. Her top performance came in the Gulls' 5-4, 12-inning victory over regional power Springfield, as she tossed 8-2/3 innings without surrendering an earned run. Somerville was also named CCC Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week on April 1. Somerville got the ball for just one start for the Gulls last week, but it was impressive. She tossed seven shutout innings in a key early-season win at CCC rival Salve Regina. Somerville scattered five singles, walked none and struck out a pair as Endicott claimed a 4-0 victory to seal a doubleheader sweep of the host Seahawks.
