Psi Chi National Honor Society
Lindsay Kaselouskas of Suffield was welcomed into Psi Chi National Honor Society on March 22, 2016 at the Western New England University chapter's annual induction ceremony. Psi Chi is the national honor society in psychology and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association. The purpose of the honor society is to advance the science of psychology and to encourage, stimulate, and maintain scholarship.
History Honor Society at ECSU
Katherine Butler of Suffield was among a group of Eastern Connecticut State University students recently inducted into Alpha Mu Alpha, Eastern's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national honor society for the study of history.
Butler's major is Elementary Education and History and Social Science.
"The Alpha Mu Alpha chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honors society, has welcomed its new members. These Eastern students have joined our chapter on the basis of their academic achievements and intellectual promise. Their membership in Phi Alpha Theta brings them into a national community of scholars and educators dedicated to history," said History Professor Bradley Davis.
The society promotes the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. It is an American honor society for undergraduate and graduate students and professors of history and it has over 350,000 members, with about 9,500 new members joining each year through 860 local chapters.
Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society
Klaire Bielonko of Suffield was welcomed into Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society on April 19, at the Western New England University chapter's annual induction ceremony. Omicron Delta Kappa is a national leadership honor society that recognizes and encourages achievement in scholarship, athletics, campus or community service, social and religious activities, as well as campus government, journalism, speech and the mass media, and creative and performing arts.
Stonehill College Honor Society Lambda Epsilon Sigma
Suffield native Alyssa L. Viets, a member of the Class of 2017, was recently inducted into Stonehill College's Lambda Epsilon Sigma Honor Society. The purpose of the Society is to recognize and promote scholarship.
Viets is a Political Science & International Studies & Foreign Languages major.
Juniors and seniors who have attained a 3.50 cumulative grade point average are invited to apply for consideration. Acceptance into the society is based on evidence of academic achievement, of a pursuit of learning that extends beyond the classroom environment, and of an ability to communication effectively through writing.
Additionally, in order to be inducted into the Society, the student must be recommended by faculty from both within and outside of the student's major.
