Congamond Lake Treatment Planned

Swimming, boating and fishing can resume July 22, but irrigation restrictions will remain in place through July 26.

SUFFIELD, CT — People using Congamond Lake should plan around a chemical treatment scheduled for Tuesday, July 21.

Portions of Congamond's North, Middle and South lakes will be treated to control nuisance aquatic vegetation, according to a notice posted Wednesday.

The notice lists the following restrictions on using lake water:

  • Drinking and cooking: Prohibited through July 24; may resume July 25.
  • Swimming, boating and fishing: Prohibited through July 21; may resume July 22.
  • Watering livestock: Prohibited through July 22; may resume July 23.
  • Irrigation: Prohibited through July 26; may resume July 27.

The treatment is being conducted under a permit from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and an order of conditions issued by the Southwick Conservation Commission.
