Dorothy L. Staszko, 90; Retired Suffield High School Secretary

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 16 with the funeral scheduled for Wednesday, June 17.

Dorothy L. Staszko, 90, of East Granby, formerly of Suffield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at her home and with her family by her side.

She was born November 12, 1924 in Suffield to the late Francis and Albina (Simms) LaFountaine.

She had worked for thirty years as a secretary in the Guidance Department of Suffield High School and then ten years with her daughter at Sentry Security before her retirement. She loved to knit, crochet and needlework but cherished nothing more than her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra S. Oliver and her husband Bob of Pagosa Springs, CO; Rosemary S. Gifford and her husband Harry of Windsor Locks; Sharon L. McCabe and her husband William of Wells, ME; Gloria M. Clark and her husband Chris of Manchester; her grandchildren, Glen Gaudette, Troy Gifford, Shelley Garner and her husband Elliott, Christopher McMann, Ashley McMann, John Oliver and his wife Jessica, Edward Oliver and his partner, Barbara Tompkins. She also leaves five great-grandchildren, Jordan, Allie, Braden, Brooklyn and Alyssa, as well as many other relatives and dear friends.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her former husband, Stanley J. Staszko, her daughter, Claudia J. Staszko, her brothers, Frank, Albert Henry, Alexander, Clarence, Thomas, Albert Simms, Kenneth and her sister, Alvina Burdick.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 10:30 a.m. at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. North, Suffield. Burial will immediately follow in St. Adelbert Cemetery, Enfield. Dorothy’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 16, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Dorothy Staszko Scholarship Fund, Suffield High School, c/o Ned Sullivan, Guidance Dept., 1060 Sheldon St., West Suffield CT 06093. The scholarship is designed for a student entering the secretarial field or working with special needs children.
