Fire companies from three neighboring communities were called in to help knock down the Tuesday night blaze.

WEST SUFFIELD, CT — A massive fire destroyed a Newgate Road home Tuesday night, with mutual aid being required from fire companies from three surrounding communities.

The fire was reported shortly before 8:30 p.m.

On a Facebook page, Suffield Forum, neighbors were reporting a man who lived in the house was awakened by the sound of his dog barking. The man apparently escaped unharmed, but the 11-year-old dog did not survive.
