Halina Wirkus, 68; Suffield Resident Who Worked as Nurse's Aide

Calling hours and services are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27.

Halina (Brykalska) Wirkus, of Suffield, loving wife of the late Zygumnt Wirkus passed away on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at the Suffield House with her family by her side. She was 68.

Halina was born Sept. 3, 1946, in Retka, Poland, a daughter of the late Stanislaw and Maria Brykalski.

She immigrated to the United States in 1994 to be closer to her daughter Marzena and her family. Halina was employed with the Felician Sisters in Enfield as a nurse’s aide for more than 10 years. She enjoyed crafts of all kinds, especially knitting and sewing and could often be found doing a crossword puzzle.

Halina is survived by a daughter, Marzena Heimowski and her husband, Peter of Suffield with whom she made her home, her son, Jaroslaw Wirkus and his wife, Justyna of Elblag, Poland; three grandchildren, Caroline Heimowski of Suffield and Paulina and Maja Wirkus both of Poland; two brothers, Jan Brykalski and his wife, Halina and Ryszard Brykalski, both of Poland, and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members in Poland.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, with a funeral procession gathering at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Adalbert Church, 90 Alden Ave., Enfield. Burial and committal services will be held at a later date in Poland.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Halina may be made to the St. Francis Foundation, c/o Cancer Center, 95 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105.
