LETTER: Dunai is Dedicated as "Your Town Clerk"

It is pretty amazing how 3 words carry such an impact. This title belongs to someone who encompasses strong work ethic, good core values, upstanding morals, and dedication that is incomparable to any contestant.

This phrase describes one person naturally.

Kathy Dunai has been your Town Clerk in Suffield for the past year. If you have visited the Clerk’s office in the last 3 years, Kathy had served as your Assistant Town Clerk. During this time, she obtained 3 of the 4 State of Connecticut Certifications that are required for the position she holds today. Did you know that she will have that 4th Certification in February? It takes more time than most realize, to obtain all these qualifications that are only offered at set times on a rotating basis. Though she awaits her final test this spring, she has demonstrated her excellent competences and expertise in the Clerk’s Office every day since.

She has excelled in attending numerous classes and is always learning with her fellow Clerks at conferences across the state. This great social connection, in conjunction with her outgoing persona, has helped embrace a great network of area Clerks from neighboring towns. Her hard work and dedication, along with her charismatic and friendly reputation, has opened new doors and concepts that have improved the office in more ways possible!

Growing up in this town, Kathy holds great knowledge. Knowledge of the area, people, the strict legalities, statutes and more which comprise her current position. This position is not a Monday through Friday commitment. Her dedication for serving the residents of Suffield extends far beyond that. It is not uncommon to find her working some weekend hours at the Town Hall, issuing a Marriage License or helping out with other requests.

How many other candidates can profess to this level of humbled understanding?

Kathy has worked over 20 years with the Town of Suffield, enjoying all aspects of what she has done and accomplished. A true Suffield Native, she leads the Clerk’s Office in the direction it needs. Anyone can proclaim they are a leader, but it takes the right person who has the job and true capabilities, to direct the way that is required. Her continued passion stems for serving the town and the people in it; she is no stranger in that degree.

I am a proud and devoted supporter of my mother, Kathy. I am also a firm believer in a person standing by their word. My mother’s dedication and commitment stands strong to this Town and every resident. Unfortunately in today’s society, politics play a great role and can cloud minds. But what is right; morally, ethically and just; will always persevere. She has, and always will be, a woman of her word. On November 24th last year, when she raised her hand and was sworn in by the First Selectman, she took an oath to promise to serve and carry out her role as Town Clerk. Every day, she has carried that promise forward.
