Suffield Student Honored in Scholarship Competition

Suffield High School student Hannah Gardocki recently received a Commended Student honor from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Hannah Gardocki, a Suffield High School senior is a Commended Student in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

"A letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, will be presented to this scholastically talented senior," according to SHS teacher Jan Potter.

Gardocki is one of about 34,000 students throughout the nation being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.

Commended students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 competition by taking the 2011 PSAT/NMSQT.

Commended Students are named on the basis of a nationally applied Selection Index score that may vary from year to year and is typically below the level required for participants to be named Semifinalists in their respective states.

Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit® Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
