Phelps Road Rebuild To Begin In Suffield

SUFFIELD, CT — Construction on Phelps Road is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Sept. 30, with crews rebuilding the stretch from Mountain Road to the island at Copper Hill Road, according to a town notice.

Crews will remove the existing asphalt and 10 inches of base material, then install geogrid, a new gravel base and asphalt. The project also includes new curbs, backfilling and seeding.

Parts of the road will be reduced to one lane during construction. The town asked drivers to watch for workers, equipment and police officers.

Residents along the work area should move private items out of the town right of way, typically within 10 feet behind the curb. The town specifically encouraged residents to disconnect and move sprinkler heads and irrigation pipes. It said neither the town nor its contractor will repair or replace private features damaged within the right of way. Mailboxes do not need to be moved.
