The Wildcats' girls team and one boy all qualified for the state championship event at Wickham Park in Manchester.

Cross country runners from Suffield High School found the combination of unseasonably warm weather and “The Green Monster” hill at Wickham Park to be a bit more than they expected at the State Open Friday.

The girls team had qualified for the championships by finishing second in the Class M meet a week ago at the same course. Unfortunately, it was a tough day for the Wildcats Friday, as they placed 21st in team competition.

Deana Pileika was the lone Suffield girl to crack the top 100, placing 72nd out of 181 competitors.
