Retired Suffield Principal Dies

Edwin Humphrey, retired principal at A. Ward Spaulding Elementary School in Suffield, passed away recently. He was 87.

Humphrey, a native of Granville, Mass., served as principal at the Suffield school for 20 years before retiring to Cape Cod.

A few months before his passing, he was able to join his fellow members of the Mount Hermon School for Boys Class of 1945 at their 70-year reunion.

“Ed was a trailblazer in education, and his passion for knowledge and enlightening young minds carried on with him until his untimely death. He was proud to see his children and grandchildren graduate from college, and watched a few follow him into teaching,” his obituary states.

A memorial service will be held in Barnstable, Mass. on Saturday, Oct. 17.
