As the state continues to dig out from this past weekend’s snowstorm, meteorologists say another one may impact Connecticut this coming weekend.
WTNH reports the latest storm could bring snow to the state Sunday into Sunday night.
“As of now, eastern Connecticut would have a high impact snow event and not much at all for western Connecticut,” WTNH reports. “We all need to watch the trend through mid-late week as any shift could dramatically impact the entire state with heavy snow amounts. There is a potential for very strong winds and coastal flooding as well!”
Meteorologists with WFSB said they are monitoring a chance for a coastal storm this coming weekend.
“It’s very early in the game, that means we don’t know IF we will definitely see more snow and we certainly don’t know timing, duration nor potential amounts,” WFSB reports.
Accuweather.com is also reporting there is another potential winter storm this coming weekend.
Its meteorologists said that if the storm is slow to strengthen, it could move out over the Atlantic before moving northward.
“In this scenario… widespread heavy snow would be much less likely in the Northeast,” Accuweather reports. “It's not out of the question that the storm would turn northward too late, keeping it dry across all of the Northeast.”
However, a stronger storm would likely turn northward sooner, according to Accuweather, which said this would increase the chance for snow along the Eastern Seaboard, including Connecticut.
“The rapidly strengthening storm could turn into a nor'easter and bring a risk of more widespread heavy snow from the mid-Atlantic to New England, with stronger winds than the last storm, especially along the coast,” Accuweather reported.
The National Weather Service as of Tuesday is predicting a 40 percent chance of snow on Sunday.
In the short term, Connecticut residents must deal with dangerously cold weather. Nighttime temperatures are expected to dip into the single digits and even below zero, according to the National Weather Service.
Gov. Ned Lamont’s office announced the state is extending a Severe Cold Weather Protocol until noon on Feb. 5 to help people who need to get warm.
