Suffield Election 2015 Results: Victor Declared in First Selectman Race

Unofficial vote totals indicate the winner received nearly 59 percent of the vote.

Suffield voters opted for change at the polls Tuesday, electing a new first selectman by a large margin.

Political newcomer Melissa Mack garnered nearly 59 percent of the vote to unseat Republican two-term incumbent Edward McAnaney. Unofficial vote totals showed Mack winning by a 2,204 to 1,567 margin.

“What I saw today and over the last few months is a town feeling hopeful for the future,” Mack said following her victory. “That we in Suffield can achieve a well run and communicative town government. There is a sense of energy that good things are possible. I can’t wait to get to work.”

McAnaney, who served as the Suffield town attorney for 16 years and was probate judge for Suffield-East Granby for 11 years, was elected to his initial term as first selectman in 2011, defeating Democratic incumbent Tom Frenaye. He topped Frenaye again in a rematch two years later.

Mack was endorsed over Frenaye in the Democratic caucus in the summer, then held off the town chairman in a primary to earn the right to challenge McAnaney.
