SUFFIELD, CT — Suffield police have identified the motorcyclist whose remains were discovered in a Warnertown Road tobacco field on Aug. 30.

Police said Thursday he was David P. Gould, 50, of neighboring Southwick, MA. A report by the Chief medical Examiner ruled the death accidental and caused by trauma to the head and torso.

Gould was found in the field that Thursday afternoon but the crash likely took place several days earlier, according to a report.

At about 1:30 p.m., police received a report that a motorcycle had been found in a tobacco field in the area of 399 Warnertown Road.

Responding officers subsequently located Gould in the same field a short distance away from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Suffield Volunteer Ambulance EMS crew, Suffield Police Capt. Christopher McKee said.

A preliminary investigation suggested that the motorcycle left the roadway at a point just north of the tobacco field. Evidence further suggested that the crash occurred several days prior to the body being found, McKee said.

Warnertown Road was closed for more than six hours while the regional North Central Municipal Police Accident Reconstruction Squad investigated the crash. The road was re-opened at about 8 p.m., McKee said.

Police had not released Gould's name initially, pending notification of next of kin.
