Suffield Interim Police Chief to Stay On; Lieutenant Promoted to Captain

The decisions were approved by the Suffield Police Commission at a meeting earlier this week.

Interim Suffield Police Chief Anthony Riello will be staying on for an additional year, following a vote by the Police Commission this week.

Commissioners voted 5-1 to extend Riello’s contract, which as to expire Dec. 31, 2015, for an additonal year, the Journal Inquirer reported.

At the same meeting, the commission promoted Lt. Richard Brown to the position of captain. He will be sworn into his new post on Monday, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. at the police department headquarters.

The changes came about because of the recent resignations of Chief Michael Manzi and Captain Craig Huntley. Both had faced considerable opposition to their continued tenure within the department.
