
Alice H. Cannon, 88, of West Suffield, beloved wife of the late Lewis W. Cannon, Jr., passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at home.
Born August 28, 1928 in Suffield, daughter of the late Stephen and Anna (Kopernik) Healey, she lived in Suffield and West Suffield all her life. Growing up, Alice attended Suffield public schools, graduating from Suffield High School as valedictorian in 1946. She then graduated from Bay Path Secretarial School as salutatorian and subsequently worked 12 years as Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Metal Finishing at Chemical Corp. in Springfield, MA.
After marrying Lew, she left Chemical to begin raising her family. During this time she served as President of the Ladies Guild at Sacred Heart Church, Treasurer of the Suffield Woman’s Club, President of various PTO organizations, President of the Little League Auxiliary and donated time as a teacher’s aide. As her children got older, she served as Secretary to Suffield’s Board of Finance and worked in the Treasurer’s Office as Office Manager where she was instrumental in automating the town’s accounting system.

Even in retirement, Alice continued her service to others as Treasurer for the Suffield Ambulance Association and serving as primary care taker for her husband, mother and best friend Mabel. Alice enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, riding horses and vacationing with the family in New Hampshire.
She is survived by her three sons, Lewis S. Cannon and his wife Celeste of West Suffield, Daniel T. Cannon and his wife Janet of East Granby, Timothy J. Cannon and his wife Susan of Kensington, NH, and six grandchildren, Christine, Stephen, Mallory, Alexander, Ailise and Victoria.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 5-8 PM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield. Family and friends may gather Friday, September 2, 2016, 9:00 AM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 AM, at Sacred Heart Church, Suffield. Burial will be in Mountain Burying Ground Cemetery, West Suffield.
